Beleghebamme An On Call Midwife?

Beleghebamme On Call Midwife

Midwife in Berlin on the topic is a Beleghebamme an On Call Midwife?

The fairytale, in my opinion, would be following scenario:

You have chosen your birth place and you are planning on going to a hospital. And because you can, you will find a midwife who will go on call for you, meaning you can reach her 24/7, starting 3 weeks before your Expected Due Date and continuing until your baby is born. And this Beleghebamme, On Call Midwife will accompany you to hospital.

How does that sound?

In the end this dream can be reality as this system is known in Germany and a Beleghebamme, On call Midwife is covered by the German health insurance.

The Beleghebamme has a contract with one special hospital, is not employed there but in the position to use the facilities .

But if you like the idea of knowing the midwife that is present during the birth of your baby, you have to act fast and search for one.

Because of insurance costs, and political reasons. It is very hard to work as a Beleghebamme and it will prove to be quiet tricky finding one.

And Beleghebammen do take an on call fee. This will vary from 400-1000€, something you definitely need to ask when you meet the midwife the first time. Some insurances will reimburse you with 250€ or more. Please check before you sign any contract.

My top-tip:

To find a Beleghebamme, start with your favourite hospital and see if they have a list of On Call Midwifes, then you have to see if they are available and fit your needs. Don’t feel shy to contact the Beleghebamme when you’re 5 or 6 weeks pregnant. That is very okay and sometimes the only way to secure one.
