Lifesavers While Starting To Breastfeed

Midwife in Berlin on Lifesavers while starting to breastfeed

Many woman I looked after have used them and I don’t recommend much, but these lifesavers while starting to breastfeed will come in handy to you while hopefully resting in your Wochenbett.

1. Breast feeding pillow

This breastfeeding pillow is a real lifesaver while starting to breastfeed. It is called American breast-feeding pillow. Don’t ask me why. Lactation consultants work a lot with this pillow.

New mums struggle having to rearrange pillows before they breastfeed, the pillows are too flat or too high, it can take time to get organized, which is okay of course but with a crying baby it can be quite nerve racking and you end up being soaked in sweat.

Everybody needs lifesavers while starting to breastfeed

FullSizeRender-1.jpgThis American breastfeeding pillow is a very firm pillow, not too hard but the baby lies on it without sinking. Perfect. And it has a strap to put around your waist so it really stays in place. You can even walk around with it.
New it costs around 65 € ( online ).
Second hand you might get a super deal.

2. Silverette, silver nipple shields

THE lifesavers while starting to breastfeed.
By coincidence I came across this product when a lady I was looking after used them. And I liked what I saw. This new breastfeeding mother didn’t have any sore, opened, bleeding nipples. Any problems that are in the books seemed to be no trouble.
So I keep on recommending them.
The silverette nippel shields are made out of silver. Silver has a healing purpose and is antiseptic too. The woman wear them day and night for about 6 to 8 weeks and don’t suffer at all. I am still amazed.
The silver has a cooling effect too and there is no need to use any cream or any regular nippel shield.
The nipple shields do not need any sterilization, you wash them daily with water and place them in boiling water for a more thorough cleaning.
And now I am curious what you couldn’t live without. Do you or did you have a lifesaver during the first few weeks or months? I have a list with things that I was very happy to have too.I will post that one shortly.

Lots of love & Go leor de ghrá,
